Karen Zellers Sevier: NGL Founder/Director
Who I am
Karen Zellers Sevier classically trained vocalist and pianist, with many years of experience in music, dance, and theatre. Introduced to theatrical performances through Encore Theatre in Shout Hallelujah, written, directed, and produced, by founder Harold J. Haynes. Other theatrical performances include Aint Misbehavin and It Aint Over Til The Fat Lady Sings (starring role). On tour, Stop Cheatin' On Gods Time featuring the late Sean Levert, son of Eddie Levert of the O Jays and Praise The Lord and Raise The Roof, playwright Celeste Bedford Walker. Served as Artist in Residency for show choir performances at Ross Shaw Sterling Senior High School, Houston I.S.D., during her mothers tenure with the vocal music program: She completed Theater Under The Stars (T.U.T.S.) summmer worshop in musical theater. Karen provides musical accompaniment for instrumental and vocal students who compete in Texas regional and state University Interscholastic League (UIL) Solo and Ensemble Competition. During the 8 years she spent at Windsor Village U.M.C. as a worship leader, she was a featured vocalist on "Yes I Can" from the release Welcome to the Village by Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell & the Windsor Village United Methodist Church Mass Choir. Karen was selected as an additional vocalist to sing with the group Kathy Taylor and Favor who was called upon to perform for the promotion party of the Disney production, Lion King, when the venue appeared at the Wortham Theatre. She also appeared with an ensemble doing background vocals for Lyle Lovett on a few appearances in Houston, Tx. Added to her credits, arranging and composing the song entitled "I Live To Worship You" recorded by Lamar Campbell, Kathy Taylor, and an instrumental version recorded by jazz pianist Herman Lee. 2007 guest performer singing the National Anthem for the Houston Comets game. 2008 Houston winner, Women Making A Powerful Difference Through Song contest presented by Ebony/Jet Magazine and the makers of Pine-Sol, highlighted in both Ebony and Jet Magazine, as well as Readers Digest, Working Mother, to name a few. While serving as the Director of Music at New World Church, she was the featured worship leader and soloist at the 2010 Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Karen has been invited as a guest performer to sing The National Anthem for The State Firemen's & Fire Marshal's Conference and Convention, Houston Fire Department Memorials, Cadet Graduations, National Honoree and Valor Banquet. She is most excited about being a part of the 2014 debut single release, "I Trust You" recorded by Anthony Faulkner, making the U.S. Media Charts, as well as East Africa. Karen has been hard at work on her own music, one of which will also feature a duet with Anthony Faulkner, as well as other original songs she's excited about releasing.
Karen Zellers Sevier is the wife of Ronald Lee Sevier. She is the daughter of Ina Kirksey Zellers and Matthew Marshall Zellers (Patsy). She has three daughters, Brandi, Naomi, and Lydia. She is currently serving as the director of music at Aldine First United Methodist Church. Karen Zellers Sevier lives her life out of the scripture Jeremiah 29:11, from which the song, "I Live To Worship You" was inspired. She believes that no matter who you are, where you are, how young or how old, no matter the place in life you may be, no matter how tough the battle, no matter how deep the hurt, God has not forgotten you.
